Therapeutic Plasma Exchange

Coming Soon

A physician-directed procedure that removes and replaces a portion of the patient’s plasma while returning the cellular components of the blood.

What Is TPE?

Therapeutic plasma exchange, or TPE, separates whole blood into:

  • Plasma
  • Red blood cells
  • White blood cells
  • Platelets

The removed plasma is replaced with an appropriate replacement fluid—commonly albumin and saline—and the remaining blood components are returned to the patient.

Why Plasma Matters

Plasma carries proteins, antibodies, signaling molecules, medications, metabolic byproducts, and other circulating substances.

TPE is an established medical procedure for selected conditions in which removing circulating plasma components may be clinically useful. Research is also examining whether plasma exchange or plasma dilution may influence inflammation, neurologic health, and aspects of age-related biology.

Its role in longevity and proactive health remains under investigation. TPE has not been established as a treatment that slows or reverses aging.

A Condition-Specific Protocol

At Werde–Schreiber, TPE is not approached as an isolated, one-size-fits-all procedure.

When appropriate, the plasma exchange may be coordinated with selected adjunctive therapies before, during, or after the procedure. These are chosen according to the medical condition being addressed, the patient’s biology, laboratory findings, treatment goals, and safety considerations.

The complete protocol is determined individually after physician evaluation.

TPE Is Not “Young Plasma”

The planned approach does not involve purchasing or infusing plasma from young donors for anti-aging purposes.

The procedure removes a portion of the patient’s plasma and uses an appropriate replacement fluid selected according to the clinical protocol.

Medical Evaluation

Before treatment, patients will require evaluation that may include:

  • Medical and medication review
  • Laboratory testing
  • Vascular-access assessment
  • Cardiovascular and fluid-balance evaluation
  • Review of bleeding, clotting, and infection risk
  • Discussion of expected benefits, limitations, and alternatives

A consultation will not guarantee eligibility.

What to Expect

TPE is performed through a specialized apheresis system with continuous clinical monitoring.

The exact treatment volume, replacement fluid, number of sessions, and monitoring plan are determined individually.

Availability

TPE is coming soon to Werde–Schreiber Precision Medicine.

Werde–Schreiber is awaiting the specialized equipment required to begin offering it.
